languages are my passion. basically why I'm watching all versions of SKAM. there's a lot of SKAM but also other series I enjoy and a lot of post about what pisses me off. this blog is a mess honestly.

jkr clearly doesn’t respect intelligence as a virtue to the point of having the smartest character explicitly dismiss it in the first book and having her two clearly least favorite houses being defined by cunning and wit and i get the feeling if she could move things along without having a character with any brains, she would have. but suzanne collins??? she clearly respects cunning people and doles out intelligence almost equally among her cast instead of concentrating all the brain cells on some morally ambiguous chessmaster like plutarch heavensbee and the villains. even peeta, who in other books would be just some dim-witted soft boy whose main virtues are compassion and love, is some brilliant mastermind who knows exactly how to manipulate people. haymitch also could have been mostly brash and at the mercy of the more cerebral planners but he survived based on wits and continues to do so despite his persona. prim–hyper-competent and has multiple intelligences. katniss is the token brave one and by nature of her character/for the sake of storytelling she’s not very emotionally intelligent and she’s the one left in the dust, intellectually, most of the time but she’s capable of shrewdness when she needs to be. anyway it’s nice to see well-balanced smart characters instead of, like, smart characters who are either evil, selfish, or need to be redeemed by having better virtues.

Brianna Ghey was a 16 year old trans girl who was murdered on Saturday 11 February 2023 in the UK.

and as you can imagine, there are some dickheads who are dismissing this tragedy, cheering on this crime, and celebrating at this loss of life BECAUSE Brianna was trans.

this is what transphobia leads to. this is what happens when irrational hate for trans people, because these bigots seem to forget that we are PEOPLE, remains prevalent in wider society. this is what happens when the basic human right to live as happily and healthily as possible is discarded and overstepped for the sake of remaining in the repressive and oppressive status quo that benefits no one but the privileged.

you lose the ability to see other people as people. you lose your humanity, all for a moment of feeling superior over someone whose life is different to your own.

you can donate to a verified gofundme for Brianna’s family here

but to every bastard who doesn’t see an issue with her murder because she was trans, i hope you choke on a chainsaw.

while i understand where people are coming from i think its funny when people romanticize the old internet

“the internet now is so damaging to kids”

remember when it was like extremely easy to accidentally stumble upon beheading videos

i love the tags on this post because it’s a mix of people acting like im exaggerating and people being like “i watched 1 guy 1 jar at a slumber party when i was 10 years old”

Speaking with the benefit of having been exposed to both beheading videos and 2girls1cup as a tween, I don’t think anyone is arguing the old internet was some kind of halcyon age with no problems- it’s that the problems were different, and they could largely be avoided by developing good habits on an individual basis

I, for example, learned not to click links from unfamiliar sources, and that if I did, I might see weird porn. And if I didn’t feel comfortable potentially seeing weird porn, I didn’t click unfamiliar links. Also, I didn’t know a single adult who thought the internet was safe for kids. When I got left alone with the computer it was because I got old enough to sneak around

The modern internet is largely bad in institutional ways that are impossible to avoid without a doctorate in computer security or becoming a mole person. The way data harvesting and algorithms damage kids, the way parents have been conditioned to think parts of the internet are somehow ‘kid-friendly’- I think there’s a clear difference between those things, and I know which one worries me more

You deserve a calm love with someone who’s your safe space, your best friend and brings peace to your soul during stressful times.

My home will be a home with no loud anger, no explosive rage, no slamming doors or breaking glass, no holes punched into the walls, no name calling, shaming or blackmail. My home will be gentle, it will be warm. No fear, no hurt and no worries. I may come from a broken and twisted place but I will build something whole and safe.

Yeah quiet quitting is great and all but have you tried chaotic working?

Like. I remember back in my grocery store cashier days I did so much crazy shit.

When WIC (Women, infants, and children voucher program to help low income mothers/families with children) people were in my line I would pretty much know who they were. Before the cards they had to tell us upfront they were WIC and show us their vouchers for what they were allowed to get (it was awful some times. Like. 2 gallons of milk. $4 worth of vegetables etc etc). They’d always have items hanging back, waiting to see what the total was and if they would have to take it off the belt.

I began to place the fruits/vegetables a certain way on the register scale so that like 1/2lbs of grapes read as like .28lbs or something. Then act shocked when I said that they still had X amount of lbs left. They got all their fruit and vegetables.

I think it started to kinda? Catch on to the women? Because I would have the same moms in my line month after month. And even after they switched to the cards (they worked like food stamp cards?) I’d still do the same thing. They were able to get more produce for whatever shitty max amount Indiana gave them.

Anyways. Be chaotic. It’s more fun that way.

I think one of the most damaging ideologies towards children is the conviction that having children isn’t a calling but a moral obligation.

Not to be a crazy radical or anything, but children deserve to be deeply wanted by their parents.

Children shouldn’t be a “stage” in life that everyone is obligated to fulfill; childrearing is not for everyone. More importantly, children shouldn’t be state-enforced punishments for “irresponsible” sexual behavior.

Children are people with thoughts and feelings just like the rest of us. They are conscious of the way people treat them. And they can certainly tell when they are unwanted and/or resented.

amid the celebrations about the queen probably dying soon, we need to remember how this will negatively affect the country. there will be millions spent on a funeral and charles’s coronation while we are in the middle of a severe economic crisis and working class families are having to choose between heating and food. it will take attention away from all the important politics and parliament may be suspended. all news and television will be about her death and her reign — it’s been said that comedy programmes will be cancelled for potentially up to a fortnight out of ‘respect’.

yes, celebrate this news. but her death does not erase the fact that the monarchy exists, and it will be a spit in the face for working people when the money we all so desperately need is spent on her and the rest of her family
